Fortnite OG is back with its biggest glow-up yet. Season 9 takes the island into the future, with neon cities, flying wind tunnels, and the return of one of the most famous live events Fortnite has ever done.

What is Fortnite OG Season 9?
Fortnite OG is a separate mode that replays the old Chapter 1 seasons in order, one at a time. Season 9 is the futuristic one. In the real timeline it ran in the summer of 2019, and a lot of players still call it one of the best seasons ever.
So even if you're new, you're basically getting to experience a piece of Fortnite history that older players still talk about. And this time it's tuned for how the game plays today.
Fortnite OG Season 9 release date and start time
Fortnite OG Season 9 went live on June 25, 2026, in the morning at the daily reset. Epic took the game offline the night before, on June 24, for a few hours of downtime to load the update.
OG seasons usually last around 10 to 12 weeks, so Season 9 is expected to wrap up in mid-September 2026. Epic hasn't locked in an exact end date yet, so treat that as a rough guess and not a promise. Check the Countdown Live

The Fortnite OG Season 9 map: everything that changed
This is where Season 9 really stands out. After the volcano erupted at the end of Season 8, parts of the island got rebuilt in a shiny, futuristic style. Here are the spots you need to know.
Neo Tilted
Tilted Towers got a full sci-fi makeover and became Neo Tilted. Same busy, high-loot drop spot you remember, now with neon signs and a cyberpunk look. Expect a ton of players to land here, so drop with a plan.
Mega Mall
Retail Row was replaced by Mega Mall, a huge indoor shopping center. It's packed with loot and full of tight corners and upper walkways, so fights get close and fast. Great for players who like to push.
Pressure Plant
The old volcano is now Pressure Plant, an industrial base built around the lava and machinery. It matters for the story too, but more on that below. It's a solid landing spot if you want lots of chests and fewer early third-parties than Neo Tilted.
Sky Platforms and slipstreams
The coolest new feature is movement. Season 9 added seven Sky Platforms floating above the map, and giant wind tunnels called slipstreams that whip you across the island fast.
Slipstreams run in loops. There's one big loop through the center of the map and two smaller loops circling Neo Tilted and Mega Mall. Run into one and you get launched, then you can steer while you fly. Around each Sky Platform there are four slipstream pillars that shoot you straight up.
Because you can fly around so easily, this is the most Zero Build friendly OG season yet. If building isn't your strong point, slipstreams let you rotate, escape fights, and reach high ground without placing a single wall.
Fortnite OG Season 9 weapons and loot
Season 9 shook up the loot pool without going overboard. A few weapons got vaulted at the start, including the Pump Shotgun, Scoped Revolver, and the Suppressed and Thermal Assault Rifles.
In their place, some fan favorites showed up:
Combat Shotgun: built for mid-range fights instead of only point-blank blasts. A big shift from the old shotgun meta.
Tactical Assault Rifle: a fast-firing AR that rewards good aim.
Burst SMG: strong for close-range spray.
Drum Shotgun: high fire rate, great for pressure.
Chug Splash: a throwable healing item you can use on yourself or teammates.
Storm Flip: a mid-season item worth learning. Throw it inside the safe zone and it creates a mini-storm to push enemies out. Throw it while you're stuck in the storm and it makes a temporary safe pocket to heal in.
Epic also brought grenades back into the mix. As the season goes on, expect more items to get added or tweaked, which is normal for OG seasons.
The Fortnite OG Season 9 Pass
The OG Pass is Season 9's version of the battle pass. Epic hasn't shown the full lineup yet, but leaks point to three skins, all remixes of characters from the original 2019 pass.
The confirmed one so far is a fresh take on Rox, the graffiti-artist skin from the first Season 9 pass. Demi is expected to return as well. The third slot is still a guess, with Singularity and the meme-favorite Sentinel (the "chicken knight") both floating around as possibilities.
As usual, the pass also comes with emotes, back blings, pickaxes, and other cosmetics you unlock as you level up. If you want the skins, grab the pass early so you have the whole season to finish it.
The Final Showdown: the live event everyone wants back
Here's the big one. The original Season 9 had a storyline that built toward a live event people still call one of the best Fortnite ever ran.
It goes like this. Polar Peak, the icy mountain, starts melting. Turns out it was never a real mountain at all. Frozen inside was The Devourer, a giant kaiju monster. To fight back, the island builds a huge robot called Mecha Team Leader at Pressure Plant. You could actually watch it get assembled piece by piece during the season.
At the end of the season, the two giants clashed in a live event called The Final Showdown. Everyone stopped playing to watch a robot punch a monster across the map. It was pure spectacle.
Epic is expected to bring The Final Showdown back for OG Season 9, so newer players finally get to see it live instead of on YouTube. Nothing is 100 percent official yet, but all signs point to it happening near the end of the season. When it does, log in early, because live events only run once and the servers fill up fast.
Quick tips for jumping into Season 9
If you're new to this map, a few things will help you win more:
Learn the slipstreams first. Fast rotations keep you out of the storm and let you third-party fights. This is your best tool.
Pick a drop that fits your style. Neo Tilted for action, Pressure Plant or Mega Mall for loot with a bit less chaos.
Hold a Storm Flip. In the late game it can straight-up win rounds by pushing enemies out of the circle.
